Voice

Healthy development, expressive communication, and age-appropriate repertoire.

The track

We place particular importance on repertoire that is appropriate to the singer's age, technical development, range, language preparation, and artistic identity.

The Voice division supports young singers working in classical voice, art song, opera, musical theatre, jazz, and other concert vocal traditions.

AYA does not provide medical or clinical vocal treatment. Participants should continue working with qualified teachers and appropriate health professionals when needed.

Audition requirements

Two contrasting selections.

Appropriate to the applicant's age, current training, vocal development, and artistic focus. 6–12 minutes total

I.

Repertoire & contrast

Selections may represent classical voice, art song, opera, musical theatre, jazz, or another concert vocal tradition. Demonstrate contrast in style, language, tempo, mood, or character where possible, and select repertoire that can be sung comfortably and consistently.

II.

Preparation notes

Include accompaniment where customary and avoid excessive audio processing or amplification effects. Provide titles, composers, lyricists, languages, and collaborators, and identify any cuts, transpositions, or adapted versions.

The committee evaluates vocal foundation, intonation, rhythm, diction, text communication, musicality, expressive range, stage presence, and artistic potential.
